Should people on welfare be allowed to vote?

According to this, everyone is a biased voter.
That's analogous to saying people in the military shouldn't be able to vote, because we all know who they'd likely vote for. If both presidental candidates agreed on the welfare program or the war,
this topic would make no sense. People will, and should, vote on the issues which most affect their daily lives, whatever it may be.
What conservative radio station ya lisnin' to Salty?

This is a tough issue. I think in a perfect world this would be ideal. You only get back what you pay in. For example. Social security If you pay in say 50,000 dollars in your woeking life time you should get it back. The gov't can use this money and earn interest on it during the time before you can start taking it back. Also say you die before you use up your 50k your family should get the rest of it. This would allow people tio have cusion when they retire and instead of jumping through legal hoops 10 years or more before they retire just to get a bigger peice of their money that they paid in. I also think this rings true for property taxes. I know that they use this money for roads and schools. I have no kids so why should i pay for schools. Also the roads around my house are some of the worst in my city. Tell me where that money has gone. As for fedral taxes i should have to pay for maintaing a military. I am not sur where the rest of it actually goes. I am sure that there is a sea of programs that are paid for and supported by fedral taxes but i may or may not ever see any benefit from them. I think state and county taxes are ok as well. They don't seem to take that much and i know that these money help to give tax abatements to large companys that want to settle in my state and county, and that brings jobs so i have little trouble wih that. I say that it is unfair for people who earn more to pay more. I think that all taxes should be equal. If that were that case i would have a lot more money to play with and i would of course spend that money on goods and services, which inturn would create more jobs, and more taxes being paid and so on and so on. Also this would create a defininite atmoshere where you knew that if you wanted any thing at all, you needed to work harder for it. This may force more people to strive harder to make themselves better. Also for people who were truly down on thier luck that have had certain problems that have forced them to be unable to work there would be more compassion and there would still be gov't money avaliable for them. Also i think that the gov't should put these people to work some how. If they are on welfare because of a disabilty fine but if they can talk give them some education, and hell even if they worked it out they could do a telamarketing job from home and they could earn a small wage. I am sure that some people would say i am weird and i could go on and on. My answer to this question now that have rambled on is Yes, they should be allowed to vote. However i feel very conflicted on this issue some times. IE: My neice, she is 23 years old now. has had 5 illegitimate children. Lives on welfare and now for 6 month works at Ralleys. The amount of money she gets is amazing. She has her GED(had to drop out of HS). She still refuses to use any birth control or get here tubes tied. I heard the other day that she is prgnanant again.
Should she be allowed to vote? This is why i am conflicted some times. Sorry for the long post. My 2 cents

I think you shouldn't be "citizen" with full voting rights untill you've done 2 or more years of Goverment service.(Military, Peace corp, Ect...)
Yeah I know just like Starship Troopers....It's my Favorite book.
Voting would mean more to most of the US if they had to "defened the right" to Vote.

I wonder how many people here would protest giving back to the community, country or 3rd world country for that matter? Teach our youth to pick up a shovel instead of playstation controller.
This is how it is for many countries including a handful of countries in Europe. When I had the opprotunity to train with the Fallschirmjager I was surprised to find out how everyone was happy with their decision. You could serve in the armed forces -or- serve 2 years of community service.
It would solve a lot of local financial problems via grunt work and make the country a lot cleaner seeing how there wouldn’t be a piece of trash along any highway.

I voted "yes" dickface and am sorry this thread topic isn't up to your high standard. I post these threads to make conversation... If people bite then we can carry on with a good conversation. If not, then they'll eventually die or lead to a different topic like Mach5WRX has presented to the table, Mmmkay?

you all realize that starship troopers is completely based on **** Germany right. you guys are really starting to scare me. Its called freedom of choice, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Its called freedom of choice
With that being said, I'll contradict myself here and say that it would be good for us as a society too. There is alot to be said for hard work and how it effects a person. However, i think it would be the worst thing in the world if your government got itself into a situation that you were against, er, much like this war.
God bless our freedom of choice, its what makes this country and handful of others so great.
