Sell your organs for $$$!
About 18 people die in the United States per day because there are not enough organs that people need for transplants. Could be kidneys, liver, hearts, lungs, etc.
How about... you make money for selling your organs? Al Gore in 1984 passed some STUPID law making it illegal for doctors/hospitals to get any money from a donor. That is stupid. Why not give the incentive of maybe donating an organ for some money? At least that would bring more people to consider doing such a thing.
Altruism is a failure, as the government says "well you don't need this, so give it to this person who needs it" Charity is a failure. If people need more organs for other people to have, then give them some $$ or a contract like retirement money, funeral expenses paid etc. that they can inherit.
Almost everyone can survive on 1 lung, so why isn't there such a huge line for people to give their other lung to others? Because we don't get anything from it, and because people won't do anything that drastic for charity. If everyone gave away one kidney, there would be enough kidneys for everyone who needed one, but why don't people do it? No gain in giving one away. Not to some stranger.
If Al Gore's dumb law was revoked, there would be a huge influx in organs, at more people could be saved. There would be laws passed for screening people donating these organs, instead of a black market, where you really don't know who is getting what and how good of condition it is.
The black market for organs is already there, highest paid price takes the lot. I don't understand some bureaucrats in the United States that control which organ goes where, and who is in more NEED of the organ. Somehow Steve Jobs was put ahead of someone who was waitin' a lot longer than he was for a liver because he was deemed more important.
It's sad, it's wrong, and they need a legal way to get people who are considering their organs to gain something. The black market out there is unsafe, making it legal would at least give the people who want to buy organs (say a Steve Jobs) a more flexible way and higher wage to pay, and also screening the person who is donating it (cuz no one would want an alcoholics liver put in them).
