What a lot of people DONT know is:
the whole thing was a stunt, and what I mean by "stunt" was that evidently, she was handpicked to do what she did. Meaning, it wasn't just some spur of the moment thing. She had been or was at the time a secretary for the NAACP, and reportedly her family helped bail another woman out of the SAME exact problem before, so it wasn't as if she set a precedent.
The reason they used her, from my understanding and reading, is that the woman who did the SAME EXACT THING about a month or so before, was pregnant but unmarried and was not considered a very good icon for promoting values, etc.
this of course, is not to take away from her courage anyhow, but i feel that history should at least report the stories correctly. she still had the possiblity of who knows what and was a very courageous woman, but i just felt the facts should also be put out there.
i also wouldnt call her the matriarch of civil rights, either. but thats all conjecture.

Hhaha to N600.
Although her death is sad and she was a major contributor to the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks has used her leverage to get what she wants from the black community for a very long time.
Besides her courageous act of civil disobenece, she really shouldn’t be idolized much further. I’d be more upset to find out Joan Rivers has passed away to be honest.
