Philly schools to require African history class
Yes, I'm offended, why can't korean or brazilian history be a prerequisate for a high school diploma, I don't have a problem as the class being offered as an elective, but there are more important subjects that american students need to get up to par on these days, namely math, science and even english. I wonder how many of these kids can write a business letter or even know what the periodic table is. The gay and minority lobbies would rather have students learn about b.j.s' and Malcom X.

The US has the least amount of our primary education dedicated to foreign history. We learn about Western Europe, that's all. It's about time we started learning more about the rest of the world. I see the point that there are other subjects that need working on, but I say take away some of the pointless hero stories of England and France and diversify the subject of history.
America is already an extremely xenaphobic nation (except for a couple cities on either coast), and that can't be a good thing. Diversifying history would help future generations appreciate the US's role in the world as opposed to taking for granted that we're the A-1 super power.
