And American cars suck *****. They are ugly, and lag behind all other manufacturers. And we have sunk in how much money to the major three over the last 20 years??

Its the same thing an insurance company does, redistributes your premiums to the whole. Except 31 cents on the dollar go to profit and admin costs.

Plus, do you really think that the gov't, the same entity that runs SSI, will run any healthcare scheme more efficiently than a private firm?
American cars are ugly and I wouldn't buy one either.
However, they do offer cars that rival Japanese cars in quality.

Actually you both are really underestimating unemployment. The stats that were used back in the 20's/30's included those who were underemployed, add those up with those that are unemployed... and you get something around barely under 20%. Back then they said it was about 25%. Imagine how close we are now...

Forcing kids to stay at school longer will probably have the same effect as dumping more money into school, which is to say none. Nada. No effect.
In my opinion, the problem is more fundamental. You can't teach kids who are unwilling to learn. Why are kids unwilling to learn? Because parents don't care - they are okay with mediocrity. Straight C's? No problem. 3.0 GPA? At least you tried. Don't want to go to college? That's ok, college isn't for everyone. It's this type of mentality that leads kids to settle for being average, instead of striving for something better.

Sad how the United States doesn't cherish the same goals and ideas with education.

They are in school from 7:30am to 4:00pm or 5:00pm depending on the area with a 2 hour lunch and generally have 9 years of formal education. Sounds like the same amount of hours I had in high school, if you add another 2.5 hours during sports sessions.

math was a joke until high school for me, most i've already learned in elementary and after schools. you guys (born in america) have it easy :P
