My January 30th election prediction
In case some of you have been living under a rock, the Sunni community has had the idea of election boycott ever since Bush denied postponing the election for six more months. It's estimated that ~20% of the minority Sunni population will vote for a government to put forth a constitution for Iraq.
The Sunnis believe that delaying the election for a few more months will insure broader participation from everyone, but mainly those in the Sunni Muslim population. As a result, Bush is faced with a double edge sword situation of time -vs- , money, resources, patience and stabilization. But the Sunni population thinks it's an obvious sign of favoritism for the Shiite community on Bush's part.
Unfortunately, I believe that will lead to an preemptive/alleged election scandal from the Sunni population and possible civil war with the Shiite population.
I just hope the Sunnis will swallow their pride and vote.

I think the sunnis will create thier own election fraud by using this as thier excuse. And that's all it is, an excuse. I say have the election, if you don't vote, you don't deserve to.

Without making much of a comment, I disagree. All that I will say is that when I was in Afghanistan and Kosovo, everyone was a bit edgy due to the potential for worst case scenario. I left Afghanistan a few months prior to the actual election, but my buddies over there who are on the operations staff are still keeping me updated via email.
There were more than a few attempts to 'scare' people away from the voter registration and polling stations, but mostly our (coalition) presence there kept order pretty well.
I believe that the Iraqi elections should go on pretty much as planned. There will be some 'incidents' here and there, but not anything unmanagable.
