I know i'm going to hell for this

The man hasn't been able to form a coherent sentence in the last decade. He slurred a couple words when I went to the Vatican not too long ago and streams upon streams of drool were flowing from the corner of his lips.

People stood awestruck in the quad for someone you couldn't even understand. Why don't they just let the Pope rest until his departure? It makes the Catholic Church look even more foolish when he speaks so why not let him pass so a more able bodied pope can spread the word of Catholicism and Christ through the land? Are they afraid he's not going to make it through the pearly gates or what?

/Rant over.

What a waste of air- let 'em go. And if you think how you speak of him has ANYTHING to do with where you go when you die (assuming there IS an afterlife), you've been duped with the rest of them.

He's just a dude like the rest of us, but unlike the rest of us, he has seriously devoted his life to a purpose larger than himself; albeit due to an errant assumption. What he'd call belief.

I'm prone to be much more in awe of those who have really given of themselves through their lives for no other reason than because they felt the desire to.

exactly... so why do we have to revere him as if he is the messenger of 'god'?

Amen. But, you gotta admit, having your own country is quite a perk to this 'selfless' position.

I'm not exactly what you'd call selfless, but the only perk that is desirable to me is that my family is safe and comfortable. That and if I had a sponsorship for my car for doing nothing.
