Stylin, I'm sorry to hear of your friend. But at the same time, I'm guessing the bullet was fired by a criminal in the act of committing a crime. Gun "laws" don't matter to these people, you could outlaw guns and they would still have them. Meanwhile you disarm law abiding citizens and it just makes the criminals job that much easier.

And I have heard plenty of stories of people defending their homes and families because they were armed. Criminals don't like a fair fight.

Remember when they tried to ban all handguns in SF? LOL. This proposed bill probably wouldn't even make it that far...

Honestly, what good does a gun do for an individual except get some anger out at the shoot range? HOw many stories have you heard where someone says, " The gun I own saved my life because I was able to use it on some criminal that broke into my house trying to hurt my family"? I would say very freakin slim compared to hOw many innocent lives have been taken?

Once you lose someone very close to you, you'll understand. I lost my best friend a few months ago in S.f. (irving pizza shooting). Stray bullet to the head, So excuse my language, but F**K guns completely.

Oh, and talk about an expensive hobby. Hell, I rather throw my money on a hot stripper then have a gun collection (IMO). Not trying to offend any gun collectors on here because we already know there are a few.
Sorry comrad but I'm not one to ban guns completely and I'm pretty sure alot of other people wouldn't tolerate that BS. I know you lost a friend to a stray bullet but seriously banning guns won't bring your friend back or stop criminals from obtaining banned items, so what good will it do to ban firearms all together? Seems like a usual knee-jerk reaction to me.

Let me preface this entire post with condolences for the loss of your friend.

You're thinking emotionally instead of rationally, you're using the same train of thought that gets these silly, feel good propositions out in the first place. Innocent lives get taken due to criminal activity, plain and simple. Guns are inanimate objects, neither good nor bad. It is used for "good" or "bad" only when they are placed in someones hand. I don't want to get too much into this, but if you can, check out the NRA magazine First Freedom. Every month they have a whole page of stories detailing where the RESPONSIBLE use of firearms has saved lives.

Now, onto the idealistic idea of banning firearms. OK, sounds great and all, but who is suffering here? Again, only the people who actually obtain firearms the legal way. Criminals already have guns, the guns are on the streets, what is banning legal purchase going to do? It'll make it easier for criminals to be criminals. Ever noticed how the bully in school chose his victims carefully? Noticed how he wouldn't pick on someone he thought may hand him his ***? Same thing, bigger stakes.

I think you're also viewing gun owners in a very one dimensional light. I don't go shooting to get some sort of manly release. I enjoy shooting for the skill of it. Try hitting center with a compact frame .45ACP shooting 230g+p. I guarantee you'll have a new respect for the 'sport' of it.

Now, if you want something to rally behind, why not get behind legislation that stiffens the penalty for committing crimes with a firearm? Maybe if criminals knew they wouldn't get a free ride on your dime for the next 15 years they'd be less likely to start spraying bullets.

So wait a minute.. Your friend gets shot and its f**k the guns?? Right f**k the inanimate object..

What about f**k the criminal who pulled the trigger?? Or was he a boy scout before and the gun corrupted him?

What about f**k the city of San Fransisco for not locking these *ssholes up in the first place? most of the guys you hear about on the news are repeat offenders ( I don't know about this guy)

What about f**K the SFPD for not catching this POS??

What about f**k the liberals (yes liberals run SF), that pump out stupid feel good laws that cost you money but don't do **** to handle crime on the street?

Here's an idea.. Why not just make murder illegal?? oh wait.. Criminals don't obey the law (which is why they are criminals!!!)

This just in.. Water is wet..

Hmmm so lets enact laws for the law abiding to control the lawless.
It's like lowering the speed limit to 55 because folks violate the 65 mph speed limit.. (Doesn't make any sense)

As far as people never using guns to defend themselves. here's two from your neighborhood that made the news.

The Oakland Tribune, Oakland, CA, 5/01/08
State: CA
American Rifleman Issue: 5/1/2008
A man wanted by police for violating his parole picked the wrong Oakland, Calif., home to break into. A resident of the home heard unfamiliar noises coming from the kitchen and was investigating with his gun when he encountered the convict about to enter through a broken out window. The resident, believing the convict to be armed, shot the wanted man in the chest and called police to the scene. Police spokesman Officer Roland Holmgren said, “(The resident) did what he had to do when he felt his life was in jeopardy.” This incident marks the third self-defense shooting in Oakland in less than a week

The Oakland Tribune, Oakland, CA, 4/21/2008
State: CA
American Rifleman Issue: 4/21/2008
An Oakland, Calif., liquor store owner defended himself against an armed robber last weekend. When the robber walked behind the counter of the liquor store with his pistol aimed at the owner, the owner quickly withdrew his own pistol from his waistband. The two exchanged fire; the owner was hit once, the robber was hit at least three times. Charges against the robber, whom police believe is also responsible for another unsolved robbery, are pending.

Actually armed citizens stop roughly 2 million crimes a year.. (of course you won't read about it in the papers, especially the SF chronicle)

Most of the Murders that happen in the US are Criminal on Criminal crime,
meaning drug dealers fighting for turf or similar..

Sometimes some *sshole (read criminal) shoots someone.. It sucks when it happens, and I feel for you and your friend, but no gun control would have saved your friend..

Do yourself and all of us a favor and think logically about what happened..

Know that the only thing gun control does is provide easy victims for criminals to prey on.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.--Benjamin Franklin

^^ I like all your stated points Tizzo. I usually refrain from entering these sorts of "discussions," but I couldn't help myself from mentioning some of my favorite quotes from Thomas Jefferson:

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”

“A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference.”

The right to bear arms was SO important, that this was included as the SECOND amendment to OUR country's own Bill of Rights.

“That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves.”

Can you please provide the details about this tragic shooting?
Who was the shooter?

Far more people die from cars every year & yet no one, including you, are calling for a ban.
Any form of gun registration, ammo registration, etc, is pure folly and, IMHO, those that support registration are sissies and were probably molested as children.

Here's a story about a gun preventing a serious crime (at least) & saving a life(at best):

Driving late at night, on a lone stretch of I-5 in Washington, the driver was heading back to his duty station at Fort Lewis. A van begins to swerve into the victim's lane; brake checks him, and leaves.

The victim, concerned for his life, take the next exit, looking for a well lit gas station.
At the stop sign, the van quickly comes from no where, and blocks the victim's car.
The driver & passenger exit the van armed with bats an/or pipes and begin to yell at the victim.
The victim, acting quikly, tries to back down, the wrong way, on the off ramp. However, in his state, he stalled the car and realized he began to panic.

The victim exited his vehicle, and secured a shotgun that was in the trunk. As he was doing this, the perps were advancing towards the victim's car, yelling threats such as, "We're gonna kill you!!"

Fearing for his life, the victim chambered a round, sought cover behind his car, and announced that he was armed.

"**** you, you California ***got! You got nothing!" was the reply.

That's when the victim fired one shot near at the perps. Luckily for the perps, the first shot was #8 bird shot, and only a few small BBs found their mark.

But that's all it took to make the perps retreat back to van & drive off.

How do I know about this incident?

Because I was the victim.

Exactly right and proves the anti-gun argument is a losing one. I have never seen an anti-gun bill that wasn't knee-jerk in every sense of the term.

This bill isn't about tracking ammo to insure a 50rd quota. Instead it's about crippling ammo sales to the point where being a recreational handgun shooter or new handgun owner in California will no longer be feasible.

I wonder how this bill was written? If there's a list of handgun cartridges I would imagine handgun manufacturers may make a separate cartridge just for us. Or the might just say **** California altogether which is what the bill makers want.

Yep that is absolutely ridiculous! I use up 100-200+ rounds just going to the range for 1 day. This state of Kalifornia is going down hill, time to move to Texas :-)

2 words: gun range

It's safe. It's fun. And nothing has to die or get injured. That's the only thing I do with my gun. That's not to say I wouldn't use it for self defense, but it just sits in a gun case at home waiting for the next day at the shooting range.
