That's because leftist influence and thinking got a foot in the door during Vietnam. This is when a lot of bonafide Democrats became Republican just because they were tired with the direction their party was going. This happened with both my Grandfathers and people like Reagan that were once registered Democrats.

LIES! It was teh one they call BUSH!11!11
In the case of OIF: a stable infrastructure, economy and way of life perhaps. An occasional carbomb, although very tragic and unfortunate, will not deter this from happening.
Have we not learned that setting up a puppet government in the middle east doesnt work?

Some articles about Congress's role in declaring war. Tried to get both sides (liberal+conservative). Basically everyone thinks congress should have a larger part in starting wars than they have since the day after Pearl Harbor.

It hasn't been tried enough to make that assumption. This is exactly what I’m talking about. The glass is always half-empty regarding the thought process.

I mostly just mean our dealings in south america and whatnot, but i don't have a very strong argument and i dont have the time to get my facts straight, so lets just consider me pwned for the moment.

South America is still not a very good argument and that's what I was hoping you'd get at. Even if you consider the SOA and other factors as a background for that argument.

South America is not a very good argument? We have pissed on our southern neighbors quite extensively.
The most obvious instance is Augusto Pinochet and the role of the CIA in the overthrow of Salvador Allende. And this is not some tin-foil hat theory. You can go to your local bookstore and read all about it in the published Senate Select Subcommittee hearings from the mid-70s. This stuff is no secret.
Behind Door #2 we have El Salvador during the Reagon glory days. We trained people to rape and kill thousands of innocent El Salvadorians. Check out a book called "Massacre at El Mazote" (sp?). Amazing read.
How about the Dulles brothers and the infamous UFCO? Setting up puppet governments in Latin America is what we do... it has been our modus operandi since the mid-19th century

Allende was on the verge of a Marxist revolution in a democratic nation. The CIA may have encouraged the military coup but the building blocks for the coup were already there! Hell, Allende personally appointed Pinochet as his head general!
We trained a lot of El Salvadoran commissioned officers in the SOA by request of the El Salvadoran government. The SOA has always been a vital part of foreign policy and did have a questionable period on teaching torture. This was cleared-up with a couple instructors and everything has been fine ever since. It's funny you blame the United States for this... do you also blame car manufacters for drunk drivers and Smith and Wesson for gun deaths? I have a friend that was an instructor at SOA during the early 90's... maybe you'd like a first hand opinion and tell him he's responsible for another groups involvement in the El Mozote Massacre?
