gasoline ethics-

this probably is not such a heated issue... but here is my gripe-

what logic is used in raising gas prices? since the gas they purchased last week obviously was cheaper than yesterday...

i posted this in HIIC... am i missing any key points? someone please give some insight-

Most stations turn their tanks in just a few days...at the latest.
And the logic in raising their prices is that you're gonna pay for it anyway.

i'd like to know how profitable it would be to invest in oil companies...
-and i'm still a little baffled to the fact that most americans are laydowns when it comes to business ethics when it comes to gasoline.. maybe i'm looking at it wrong... i don't think so.

Gas Stations and oil companies keep track of their profits on an average price. It's stated in their accounting practices at the beginning of each fiscal year.

I'm not sure if Oaf is right or not in their turn around time for the tanks. Even if so. If you knew that the price of something was going up, wouldn't u want to be able to make some extra cash right now so that the burden of the increased price isn't as bad? If that's unclear, I can explain it more later. I have to get to class.

How are price increases a burden if they result in additional profit? It seems to me that every time wholesale gas goes up 10 cents, the retail price jumps at least twice that. Same goes for rumors, cost-per-barrel of crude, etc.

Sounds more like a boon than burden.

If I had to sum up the entire industry in one word, I'd use "greed."

the answer is very profitable- that is if you can afford to buy into their stock plans.

I don't like paying all this money for gas but lets face it, we're spoiled. Compare our prices to europeans. And even with all this talk about crazy gas prices DEMAND for gas has increased. So we'll keep taking up the poop chute and like it because we arn't going to drive are cars any less

Well so far on todays trading crude is down nearly $2/bbl and gas is down $.20/gal

So we should see the pump prices go down tomorrow right?

I'm not holding my breath for that one........

Well since this thread got started, crude prices have dropped $3 and gas futures are down around $1.60 again, so where is that drop in pump prices you were talking about?

most stations I've seen are still over $3/gal for 91 oct, some as high as 3.25 or more still.....

Huh?

That's BS. If you consider inflation and the cost of crude, and marry that with modern distribution, efficiencies of scale, and technology, there is NO FREAKING WAY gas should cost $3 per gallon.

This is one case where corporate greed is out in the open, too.
