Lightbulb Ethics question

Is it ethical to buy something for $99 when it is originally supposed to be $400? Its not a super sale but an obvious error.

Please tell me and include your rational.

Not from the back of a truck, its from a store and price marked incorrectly.

Then it's the store's problem.
And your windfall.
I say buy it.

If it is something you've budgeted the $400 for, then I say inform the merchant, karma points and maybe a discount for being honest.

Here are my thoughts, one side of me says:

"Dont take advantage of an obvious error, its wrong."

But then the other side of me says:

"Its the stores fault, you want the item, get it now for a good price...Ive already notified them of the error, just do it now while its still available."

Longs used to have the "if it's price marked incorrectly, you get it for free deal"

I say take the advantage.

If it's marked, it MUST be sold at that price by law :-) They can fix the next one!

dude, are you serious? is it ethical for companies to make so much profit on things when they mark them up so high? look at chevron and mobile? do you have any idea how much profit they made last year when we got screwed? do you know why macys has a 70-90% off sale? because they mark the damn products 5000%.

Sooner you buy it at that price, the sooner the store realize and fixes their error. You're doing the store a favor.

yeah this happens all the time.

As long as its not a ma and pa shop, and its a big corporation which it most likely is, do it!

Ditto. Can't take advantage of the mom and pop stores.

purchase it for the price it took to create the product. if a $400 product only took $75 to make it, the rest of the price is for 1) profit 2) commercials, advertising 3) transportation and so on. its ethical to purchase the price that is listed, but not ethical for the sellers to give a unfair price.
