Destiny's Child - Soldier [offensive to those in uniform?]

I had never thought anything of this, but I saw this video posted at another forum and a number of people that are members of our fine armed services took offense at the way the word "soldier" was being used.

Anybody in the service of the US care to comment?

Hey
(I want a Soldier!)
The way you got it, I'm the hottest around
They'll know it when they see you rollin' impala's around
(I got a Soldier!)
Wit the top down feeling the sounds
Quakin' and vibratin' your thighs ridin' harder than guys
Wit the chrome wheels at the bottom, white leather inside
When them lames be spittin' at you tell 'em don't even try it
To shot it wit Chelle and kick it wit Kelly or holla at B
Ya, gotta be g's you way outta your league
Please!

[First Verse: Kelly (DC)]

We like dem boys that be in them lac's leanin' {Leanin'}
Open their mouth their grill gleamin' {Gleamin'}
Candy paint, keep that whip clean and {Clean and}
(They always be talkin that country slang, we like)
They keep that beat that be in the back beatin' {Beatin'}
Eyes be so low from there chief {chief and}
I love how he keep my body screamin' {Screamin'}
A rude boy that's good to me, wit street credibility

[Hook: DC]
If his status ain't hood
I ain't checkin' for him
Betta be street if he lookin' at me
I need a soldier

That ain't scared to stand up for me
Known to carry big things
If you know what I mean
If his status ain't hood
I ain't checkin' for him
Betta be street if he looking at me
I need a soldier
That ain't scared to stand up for me
Gotta know to get dough
And he betta be street

etc.,etc.

Yes.

It wasn't a big deal in the beginning because "soldier" was dubbed "street-thug" or something along those lines. But when these rap artists start boasting about "purple hearts in the city" (50 cent IIRC), rank and actually wearing decorations on their jacket it can be rather offensive.

I suppose someone could legitimately press charges because it is against the law to wear military decorations... especially awards of valor etc. If anyone ever did then it would be pawned off in the same sense an actor wears a uniform and awards. The problem is that this type of thinking has obviously gone to their heads.

OT: This is the worst ****ing song evAr... I’m specifically referring to the, "he's looking good and he's talkin' right" lyric. WTF kind of message is that!? I’d like to think my daughter would be interested in a person that could form a coherent ****ing sentence. Pathetic.

For the record I see an ARCOM, BS, SS and DSC (second highest to the MOH).

What a bunch of malarchy, I don't see how any person with a ****ing brain could take any of these guys seriously. Pardon my rant

I'd be alot happier if 100% of the proceeds from this album went to Injured soldiers and thier families, or even if they all just bought a belt

I sent this thread to a friend of mine and he said:

I'm not sure any of the many people in uniform that I know have even heard that song. Its hard to be offended when you don't know someone is offending you. They all seem to listen to rock and country, my brother joined the Corp's and came out listening to country. Strange.
