Biggest reason for GOP to support Social Security

Well it looks like the biggest reason for the GOP to support social security is to win voters.

Not because it's actually better for the system or the people (which hasn't been proven), it's because they think it will make them look better politically.

It's a no-win for people in the House," the moderate, 10-year House veteran from rural Illinois said recently. "We risk our political careers. We risk 30-second ads against you saying, 'You voted to gut Social Security."
Younger voters, that's just a layup," Ryan said. "When they see the Democratic Party trying to oppose giving them access to their own Social Security [investment] account, that's a political winner for us and a loser for them
Let's see how many young people here get played by the GOP.

Trying to garner more votes is a given, however Social Security is a joke and something needs to be done to fix it, only time will tell if the new approach is successful. We all know that time has shown that the old approach isn't working. I'd be happy to get rid of it altogether personally, but we all know that the money to pay back what everyones put in just isn't there.

So nobody here sees a problem with their motivation?

I would have a problem with what the Democrats say is their motivation. But what a member of the GOP said was, there is a risk but there is a huge political upside apart from the change being successful.

"Ryan concedes there's risk in reshaping Social Security, whose recipients include 32 million retired workers and dependents who don't want their benefits cut. But he sees a huge political upside: winning the gratitude of investment-savvy younger voters who see the program's monthly checks as financially stodgy."
