cultural impact of war in iraq

I was thinking about the end of the Vietnam War....and how there really was no great ending or parade...the main reason being that Americans did not support the war..and we didn't really win, and if we did it wasn't an overwhelming victory... I'm wondering what happens when the war in Iraq is over...we seem to be crushing all opposition since we are better prepared for guerrilla warfare since Vietnam, but how do we treat the soldiers when and if they all come home, is there a parade? Do we recognize them for their achievment? Or are they simply forgotton?

I don't know if there will be a parade but they should never be forgotten. I think this is the main difference between the two era's. This generation, although they do not agree with this war will not ever take it out on the troops, at least I don't think it will go down that way. I think people realize that these guys are just doing their jobs. I think in heavily military places such as bases and whatnot there will/should be some sort of parade or recognition of some sort. I know in the little town where my parents have their summer place, is the National Guard Camp and there are alot of men and women from the surrounding area that are over there right now. I bet they have a parade up there, as they should.

The war is over

The war is over. We went in and removed Sadam from power. Now it's more like an occupation/police action. The celebrations are kept small and local to the cities and towns that the troops come home to (when thier tours are up). If you're looking for a huge parade through new york...it'll never happen. It's not as if we played a huge roll in liberating europe and securing our own safety....again.
