Has anyone heard of this? I find it quite interesting.

While I don't know who wrote it I did hear about it in a World Civ class I had a few years back. It is very interesting but not suprising given that back in those times muslims in certain civizations had certain rules regarding other "men/women of the book" (Dhimma, I believe it was called) This offered protection and rights to non-muslim (Jews and Christians) living under the Muslim Rule of Sharia. This came at a price of course in the form of a tax and some limited abilities when compared to a muslim.

Hmmm, that is pretty cool. This type of bridge-building would do wonders in the Judeo-Arab world.

As long as the Arabs refrain from blowing up the bridge.

Fixed.

The problem with Islam like many religons, is interpretation. Which is what we are seeing in Iraq, all the accounts we have of Muhammed were recorded 100 years after his death by people who had heard stories from people who had heard stories...

When you think about the big picture it's not Islam versus the world, it's Islam versus Islam and until it can fix itself, like Christianity did we'll continue to see what we are today.

The Constitution of Medina was supposedly drafted by Muhammed himself, who without question wasn't always a peaceful guy. But I think it reveals a couple important points.

1.)There was dialogue by the founder and alleged prophet, which aimed for peaceful coexistance between the prevelant monotheistic religons.

and

2.)The charter also verifies to anti zionists that the middle east and Arabia in particular was also once "Jewish homeland". And was recognized by thier prophet.

The whole problem with these two points leads back to interpretation.
