'Cash for clunkers' bashed
This is another example of wasted tax dollars. If the cars that actually came in NEEDED to be shreded were actually clunkers, then maybe this would work. Most of the cars that come in are in fine condition, and by law they have to DESTROY the engine and tranny? WHY would you destroy them when you can simply part them out and recycle them that way? Yes, they are turned into recyclable metal, but it would be better to just re-use parts. We could sell the cars coming in to Mexico over the border or something.
Either way, profit is made, I don't understand the destroying of usable cars and their parts. Waste of money, and now we're paying for people to buy new cars?
In addition, one of the funny things are the class grades of cars. Somehow the F-150 (most popular truck) is over the weight limit is 8500lbs, yet chevy falls into the category to pick their truck.
Sounds like Government Made Cars is getting away with polarizing the market. F150's is a good truck, and has been #1 in the past 30 some odd years and now government wants the $$ so they exclude it in the exchange of purchases.
TOTAL BS, I smell Hitler, except he's half black this time.

and they wont again
did you know that the more fox news you watch, (and this is proven in numerous public opinion polls, gallup...) that you actually know less about the world. 2/3 of fox news watchers think Iraq was behind 9/11
So the government spent one billion on jump starting the auto industry again. That's what we spend in three days in Iraq. 250,000 cars were sold in the last 4 days. That's a good thing. Instead of those cars rusting away in peoples backyards, they are being recycled into useful scrap. Did you know that recycling ONE soda/beer can you can power your television for three straight days? So stop being so reactionary, TURN OFF GLEN BECK, and fox news.

My only gripe with the program is that it should have ben limited to american built cars.

But they trade them in... take citizens 3500-4500 TAX/BORROWED dollars and buy a new car? and end up having to pay their payments again?
This is very simple logic, yet I still don't know how all of you democrats do not understand this. We have a deficit, we got there by spending. So what did Obama do? SPEND MORE?!? We are BORROWING money from other countries who buy our bonds and SPEND IT. How about go back the other way and stop spending?
This clunker thing is having people spend more, and DO YOU SERIOUSLY, and I mean SERIOUSLY, think that the auto sales blip of 2.3% increase in sales is going to all of a sudden help fix the economy? Absolutely not. It's putting us, the taxpayers, in MORE debt than BEFORE the bill. Why? Spend spend spend.
We must stop spending, and when citizens stops spending, the GOVERNMENT SPENDS IT FOR US?!? What the living hell are they doing? I guarantee you that all of this spending is just going to put us in worse shape than if we just stop, let the places go bankrupts instead of nationalizing everything.
The government isn't made to bailout anything, the government needs to stay out, and let the CAPITALISTIC markets rebalance itself. Let the Ford's and other companies who know how to stay afloat, do their thing, instead of punishing them with a stupid bill like this. We should let the SMART and efficient businesses expand and lead the way, not bail out failing businesses. We should let the FAILING businesses CRUMBLE, instead of wasting our tax dollars on a dumb bill that isn't going to fix anything.
BTW I might listen to fox news, but I don't just take their word on everything. Some things are far fetched, but I listen to the citizens a lot more than to a program such as Fox. I like fox because they talk about crap that no one else talks about on regular news channels. I also get a lot of my information on the web, since that is more efficient and not FCC'd

Uhh...I don't believe that for a moment. Sources?
Yeah...but how many were bought right out and how many were: *duh duh daah!* financed!? This is EXACTLY what got us into trouble in the first place.
Umm...wtf is 'useful' scrap? They take the engine and drive train so you can't re-sell the car and destroy it then crush the car and put it into a junk yard. Useful? For whom?
Uhh...No. Like seriously. No, dude.
Recycling has NOTHING to do with power - in fact recycling actually COSTS energy to do - recycling and reusing materials are about reducing the amount of consumables we take in - it has nothing to do with power.
Oh and source? Cuz that's bull.
I call complete BS on your post. You hate the administration, you hate the idea of helping people, so you decide to find flaws with this program. The problem is, you know nothing about it and decide to make up random BS. Were you personally there when every car got destroyed, tallying how many were "actually clunkers"? Did you examine the raw data of the cars that were brought in compared against the cars that were bought to replace them? I'm going with a big fat ****ing NO on that one chief.
My only gripe with the program is that it should have ben limited to american built cars.

You sir need to listen to the radio and listen to the people who call in and their job professions. I guarantee you that there are plenty of cars being wasted in this program, good engines, good trannies, all being destroyed, made into metal, and sent to china where they do something with it and send it back to us?
The idea of the government spending our money doesn't maek sense.
This isn't about trying to HELP other people. There are better ways we can be spending $$ to HELP other people. IE government can pay for all the poorest areas and put in solar panels to help with the energy bill etc. But it's more of a spending bill than it is a helping bill.
Again, you fail to recognize the fact that now americans are starting to spend less, and the government instead is spending it for us...
We got here by spending, spending even more isn't going to fix anything.
You let the failing businesses fail, stop wasting money in them. You let the Ford's and the other companies who know how to adjust and stay afloat get bigger, not steal their money with these stupid provisions. Promote afloat companies to expand. Destroy the ones that should have failed.

Where's the money coming from to pay for this program?
Who's benefiting from this program?
What are the metrics used to determine success/failure?
Why is it that this program was not debated on or voted on separately?
It's more wealth transfer that we didn't get to approve/disapprove.

Secondly, I don't have the time to look through gallup's opinion polls right now to find you the exact study on Fox noise, but I can give you this link.

How can you not see that Fox News is propaganda? Seriously. Any right minded person can see this fact. come on now, you are smarter than that.

Ok... recycling does save energy. instead of pulling raw materials out of the ground and making, refining them into first time use products, you can simply recycle what has already been refined, in this case aluminum and tin, the energy savings are huge. That's why we recycle. Most of the major aluminum manufacturing plants are solely RECYLING PLANTS, from industrial and post consumer sources. oh, and we live on a planet with finite resources.

I understand that - but you do realize that recycling plants cost a **** ton of energy to operate correct? And that sometimes; especially with big operations - the energy isn't offset by the material, ie. it costs less energy to make new material as opposed to recycling the old. So to say that recycling is more energy efficient is false and misleading.
Now you are flopping around; you first said that Fox News is a contributor to ignorance and as a direct result people believe certain falsities. Yes, it is propaganda - so is ANY news station - they are in it to make money and report the news in a way that best benefits the person holding the purse strings. Listening to one source over another isn't a contributor to one's IQ.
Bottom line is that we're doing more of the same spending money, or transferring money from wealthy to poor on a HORRIBLE idea of "recycling energy"
Please take your billions of your stimulus, and invest them in solar panels across the globe and convert all of that into power. Don't waste it on destroying the used car parts and cars period. Sure SOME of them are clunkers, but I enjoyed my clunker when I first began driving ('86 MR2) that was nice n' cheap and I could ding around learning to drive stick when I was 16.
It makes no sense to destroy something that is fully paid for and still functional. You aren't getting it. Sure the value of the thing is down because of usage and age, but it is still usable. It costs a lot more money for a manufacturer to build a brand new spankin' car. I guess you aren't understanding the idea that SPENDING is putting this country more in debt, we're only spending what other countries are giving us. I can't wait until China stops buying US bonds; The United States is BROKE FROM SPENDING, and in DEBT.
All of this again, is going to have people in more debt when **** hits the fan. Gov't needs to stop spending money.
I love how anything against the government (when we all know the government has its faults) is propaganda.
Do you smell what the Obama is cookin'?
mmmm, Hitler II.
