Not only a crock of **** but a waste of taxpayer's money.
The $1 billion program would therefore be spending $20,000 to foster the sale of each additional car. CARS requires only a 10 mpg improvement in fuel efficiency for passenger cars and 2 mpg for trucks. "You can turn in a 14-mile-per-gallon gas guzzler for a 16-mile-per-gallon gas guzzler, with the taxpapers subsidizing your purchase," said Ann Mesnikoff, director of the Sierra Club's green transportation campaign. .. The Obama administration expects the plan to boost sales by 250,000 over the next three months by providing rebates of up to $4,500 for new-car buyers trading in old models with a combined fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
|

Cash for Tuners??? :blingbling: |
This is another example of wasted tax dollars. If the cars that actually came in NEEDED to be shreded were actually clunkers, then maybe this would work. Most of the cars that come in are in fine condition, and by law they have to DESTROY the engine and tranny? WHY would you destroy them when you can simply part them out and recycle them that way? Yes, they are turned into recyclable metal, but it would be better to just re-use parts. We could sell the cars coming in to Mexico over the border or something.
Either way, profit is made, I don't understand the destroying of usable cars and their parts. Waste of money, and now we're paying for people to buy new cars? In addition, one of the funny things are the class grades of cars. Somehow the F-150 (most popular truck) is over the weight limit is 8500lbs, yet chevy falls into the category to pick their truck. Sounds like Government Made Cars is getting away with polarizing the market. F150's is a good truck, and has been #1 in the past 30 some odd years and now government wants the $$ so they exclude it in the exchange of purchases. TOTAL BS, I smell Hitler, except he's half black this time. |

Looks like the government is digging into computers on cars.gov |
Glenn Beck.

ditto |
I support the program, but only if you are really going to turn in a low mpg clunker and pick up something that gets 10+more mpg.
I mean 3 Billion dollars is NOTHING compared to the 500 billion the fed just gave away to 13 foreign central banks. If the govt wants to help out the american people buy new better mpg cars for $3bil, then so be it. Why is no one about talk about how money the fed is just giving away!? |
How much would a nuke plant cost to build?
Building 3billion dollars in Nuke plants would go alot further to decrease our dependence on foriegn oil and reducing "carbon footprint" Yes I know 3billion in Nuke plants isn't very many. But still. |
