. Looks like we have a more intense civil war on our hands than previously thought.

Discuss.

This begs the question, have we put them in a position were they are worse off now than when Saddam was in power?

It's to the point where they're putting themselves in the worse position. Think about it for a second... we completely revamped their society for the better and provided greater opportunity for everyone only to have a small percentage of people ruin it for everyone thus far.

I would consider our actions as "putting them in a position were they're worse off now" than ever before if we didn't do anything worthwhile in the process of getting rid of Saddam. This wasn't the case by a long shot.

It's like giving your spoiled son a new car in blue for his 16th birthday only to have him (the radicals) blow it up with C4 because he wanted red or didn't want it at all. Meanwhile there's millions of spectators (Shiites, Kurds, and even a significant amount of Sunnis) that saw him receiving the gift that would gladly accept and sincerely want the shiny blue car in a heartbeat. You'd only be putting your son in a worse situation if you gave him a short circuiting pinto in red.

To me it's more like buying your unlicencesed 16 year old son a Ferrari for his birthday and watching him burn the hell out of the clutch and then crash it because you forgot to sign him up for driver's ed and never taught him how to drive...

I can see this too. Except only a small fraction Iraqis (the insurgency) are unlicensed drivers. The rest of the country is ready and willing.

I dunno... it makes me wonder if anyone else is running the show behind the scenes in the same way I think terrorist organizations are funding the drawn-out and well organized Denmark riots.

What was the percentage of insurgents in Iraq? I forgot the number but I believe its not that small of a number. I could be wrong though.
