My friend from High School was killed in the Anbar province of Iraq this last week. He was in Michael Moore's movie Farenheit 9/11. I hadn't seen him since about 2 years out of High School (Class of 95) He was a really nice guy though and he leaves behind 2 children. After talking with some friends he was only a few weeks from being done over there. This is really hitting close to home now.
RIP Ray

Got a little info from the local paper here on what he was doing while in Iraq and how he got put into "Farenheit 9/11" that I thought I would share with you guys. He was quite an amazing guy. I feel bad we didn't keep in touch....
LAKE ORION -- Staff Sgt. Raymond James Plouhar only had 38 days left on his second tour in Iraq when he was killed detonating a roadside bomb Monday in the Al Anbar province. Plouhar, 30, was in the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was conducting combat operations Monday.
The Lake Orion native lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., with his wife, Leigha, and two sons, ages 9 and 5. He was the 86th Michigan service member killed in Iraq, according to the Web site icasualties.org, which tracks military deaths.
Plouhar joined the Marines after graduating from Lake Orion Community High School in 1996, where he played football and wrestled, said his father, Raymond Anthony Plouhar. "It was his whole life. That's what he wanted to do, serve his country," his father said.
Monday's blast was the third to strike Plouhar in the last four months, his father said, adding that his son's job was to detonate and clear the explosive devices with a radio transmitter. He suffered concussions from the first two explosions, but refused Purple Heart medals for his injuries, his father said.
"He got a little too close this time."
A former Marine recruiter based in Flint, Plouhar was in the Michael Moore film "Fahrenheit 9/11," but was told he was being interviewed for a Discovery Channel documentary, his father said. "It broke his heart that they tricked him into that," he said. "He was disgruntled about that."
Plouhar was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers, and often asked about the teams when he called home, his father said.
He also donated a kidney to an uncle about five years ago, his father said.

Duped into "a discovery channel interview" like everyone else in that movie.
Sorry man. If you think about it the odds of anything happening are very low over there. Served his country, donated a kidney... selfless service posterchild. I salute him.

hey sorry to hear you lost someone, even if you haven't seen or talked to him in along time it still sucks to loose someone you knew!
i myself am probably going to go to iraq after my advanced training, and the thought of dying doesn't make me to happy, but if your buddy was anything like me or the other thousands of soldiers he wanted to serve his country and provide the freedom we all take for granted in the states to other unfortunate people. people that have been born into dictatorship and subjected to mass muder of their familys!
your buddy died doing the best thing he knew how and that was to protect freedom! i salute him!
and mr. moore is the fatest a**hole in the world. but the sadest part is people believe his lies!

That is a man. That takes guts. That takes courage.
Gave his kidney?
Sacrificed his life for an ideal?
No life lived in vain here, my friends.
You have my gratitude...thank you deeply.

A search for your friend on the offical Bush/White House website turned up no results either. Looks as though the White House shares the same use em and lose em attitude as well. Your friend was obviously a great man and it's a shame we're losing men like hime over there.

Sorry too hear that man.
You can thank President Bush for your friends death because
Bush was the one how voted to draft people to go to war
in the middle east. The real reason Bush decided to vote yes to
the military draft to the middle east was to finish his father's
unfinished business.
