@*&$#!! Treehuggers!

Sometimes you just gotta call bull****...and this is one of those times.
Years ago, you were allowed to throw away aerosol cans such as paint, carb cleaner, etc, into the trash.
This was bad for the environment.

So generators of large volumes of aerosol can waste were stuck with throwing used cans into 55 gallon drums & paying $400 per drum to landfill the drum.
This was bad for the environment.

Then some smart person devised a system that would puncture aerosol cans & recover the contents, leaving an empty can that was RECYCLED with normal steel waste.
This was good for the environment.

Just got a letter today announcing that, due to new laws going into effect in the People's Republic of Kalifornia, aerosol cans CANNOT BE RECYLED even if they've had their contents reclaimed.
This means that my shop will be landfilling more than a ton of steel every year.
Just how is this good for the environment!?

****ing idiots.

You've gotta wonder what Californian leaders are smoking.

This type of idiocy is happening everywhere from caltrans to commercial/sport fishing. It's lunacy and enough to make you want to move to another state.

I would imagine that this is more because of special interests than tree-huggers. Thinking out loud, but I wonder if the steel industry would be hurt by increased recycling efforts or helped?

I can't find a shred of info about this anywhere on the net. I'm disapointed to hear about this, and I'd like to learn more about why this is...if you have any info or links or anything that'd be great.

The letter comes from a well-known steel recycler.
I re-read the letter to find the upcoming law, but it doesn't give a reference.
Called my POC at this well-know steel recycler & he's looking into it.
Will keep y'all posted on his findings.

The steel industry & those that make products with steel are realizing an accute shortage & are hurting for scrap steel; price for scrap steel is going up & up, orders of steel products are being delayed.

The PRC has been on spending spree with regards to the metals markets; they're buying everything they get their hands on.
And that scares me.

What a waste! I'm outraged! It's like dumping 'extra' ammo into a lake! :x

It's just a biproduct of a building boom. Huge buildings are sprouting up in every metro area of China, along with factories... cars are being produced now in significant numbers there... it's just what happens when a billion people leap 100 years towards the present technology wise.
