+1 for teflon tape and grease. I upgraded my 17mm rear sway bar on my wagon to a 20mm with stock bushings and only used teflon tape and it still squeaks when I hit bumps. I will be adding grease soon.

 

Sounds like any type of grease works.

 

It mostly comes down to convenience - how often do you want to crawl under the car to regrease your bushings? I'd rather put in a good grease once every 2-3 years than an inappropriate grease every 3-6 months.

Lithium complex greases are not waterproof, so they will eventually wash out. In addition, lithium greases are not very reversible, in that once the base oil separates out from the thickeners/solids, it cannot recombine. Reversibility is important if the grease is subject to mechanical shocks or temperature extremes.

Aluminum complex and polyurea greases are the most resistant to water washout, and the former is 100% reversible. Aluminium complex greases are also compatible with lithium greases (this means you can be lazy and just add additional grease instead of completely removing the old grease). Polyurea greases are incompatible with any other type of grease.

Most lawn or farm equipment shops sell aluminum complex greases, FWIW.

 

The main issue I'm concerned with is if the grease is compatible with rubber, as the wrong grease will dissolve the rubber bushings. I have tried 3 types of grease so far and I still don't have a conclusive info if Mag 1 Marine Grease is safe for my rubber bushings. =/

 

Okay, I finally found a specific lube that is definitely rubber safe and good for use in the sway bushings... Sil-Glyde. I got a tube of it at Napa Auto, and it specifically says, "harmless to rubber" on the tubing.

 

Ive had the best results with LOTS of teflon tape (wrap it up like a mummy) and a bit of grease that came with my whiteline endlinks. Using just grease left them squeaky after a few days. No squeaks yet with the teflon tape

 

Prothane or the energy suspension version of the stuff. Best stuff, its also the stuff COBB gives you for your sway bars.
