Suspension Noise

Hey all, I have an 05' WRX with about 45k on it and since I bought it I have noticed that the left front wheel area makes a "clicking" or "popping" sound" when I am driving slowly (like in a parking lot). The noise sounds like something is loose and has some play in it, and is heard when going over even the smallest bumps. I can especially notice it if I am going slow, say in a parking lot, and I turn the wheel rapidly left and right. It is the same whether I am in neutral or in gear so I don't think it's related to the tranny.

Any similar experiences or suggestions would be great, I am hoping to jack it up this weekend and have a look, when I brought it to the dealer for some other service I told them to look at it, and of course...they said they didn't hear anything and that everything was within tolerance (B/S! b/c it's very easy to notice the noise when test driving in a parking lot). So I don't trust them.

Thanks,

Can ya be more specific? For the turns, how much are you turning the wheel when you hear this sound? Or what is the range of the clicking sound? Are you on stock struts? Might be one of those bolts or something?

Did you check the strut bolts? The might have gotten loose or it might be clunking from the strut itself...

I get popping and clunking when the bolts on my endlinks are loose. Try taking them out and re torquing them.

I've had this problem for a while. Sounds like metal to metal contact when you turn the wheel at low speeds. Had EQ take a quick look at it and didn't see anything wrong. I just got used to it. When I get my motor swap I'm going to ask EQ to get to the bottom of this. It's problebly not a good thing driving around with something either loose or metal to metal contact.

let me know what you find...

i have an 07 wrx wagon, same exact problem i think.

i cannot find it, Speed Element couldn't find it either. I do NOT have to turn the wheel to hear this noise... just small bumps, etc.

i'm thinking it's something with the strut, but just a hunch.

i did the general fist bump check on everything down there, nothing seems loose, i am clueless as to what it is as well, but it seems as we are not alone.

i thought it was a tensioner maybe, nope. thought it was the tmic rattling against the hood, nope. thought it was the undertray being loose, nope.

i think it's either a strut bolt somewhere, or like above, a sway/endlink issue maybe.

LET US KNOW!

hey, sorry all I haven't checked the forums until now. Yeah I dont HAVE to be turning to hear the noise either. I have yet to check out the strut bolts, waiting for the weather to clear up a little.

When I am turning the wheel, I turn it probably 25 degrees in either direction.

Thanks

starting to **** me off though, all my friends ask what's falling off my car. FML
