Suspension advice!
Well just picked up a new 03 Sonic Yellow WRX a few weeks back. Now it's time to do some modifications. I want to lower it and also improve the handling. I've been reading all the posts regarding springs/shocks & coilovers but to be honest, it's a bit overwelming. One minute I read a thread about how great coilovers are the next about how their not. The same holds true for the various spring/shock combinations.
I'm going to be running SSR Comps 225/40/18"x8". I'm not a big racer, and I only autocross 1 or 2 times a year. I don't want a ride that is jarring because this will be my daily driver.
Here's what I'm thinking....
H&R Springs/Koni Shocks
or
Tein Wagen Coilovers (I've read you can use these on a sedan).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What do you think?????

Hey 748,
I am going through the same thing. I was going to go with spring and shock set up. It would cost approx $700 - 900 depending on where you get your equipment from. For the money I would go with the tein wagons. It's height adjustable, not that you should be changing your height all the time. For me I think I am going to go with the tein ss. Its height adjustable and damper adjustable. Just in case I decide to auto-x.
Hope this helps.

The Tein Wagons will be good for you.
The Koni/H&R or Koni/Eibach(I have this) setup will also be great.
but dont count out the H&R Cup Kit. It's much better then the tein wagon kit

Tein Wagons are an excellent setup, but not recommended for sedans due to the rear struts being a different length. I would contact your Tein vendor of choice and ask them for the closest equivalent to the Type Wagons for sedans. Tein makes 10-12 different setups, most of which are adapted for the WRX now.

They are roughly 1/2" or so shorter. But that only means you adjust the collar less then you would normally.
The wagon setup has been on sedans for a long time now. Although it's not a "recommended" setup, it works. Kind of like the GC8 AGX for the WRX...

Well just broke down and ordered the Tein Wgns for my Sedan. After further research and contacting Gruppe-s I went with the Tein's. Gruppe-S said that the rear Wgns are a bit shorter than the sedans. So you just need to dial in the rears a bit less. Also when I ordered them I asked how many are sold to sedans and they said about 50%!
I definately like the idea of the ride height adjustment. I'd hate to get springs and shocks and the car not sit right. That would suck. And besides it's basically the same price.
