Rear Strut/Spring Differences 02-03 and 04-05
Rear Strut/Spring Differences 02-03 and 04-05
Does anyone know the differences in the mounting points of the rear strut assembly for the WRX 02-03 and 04-05 MYs? Can an 02 -03 springs fit on an 04 WRX?

The front springs are the same for 02-06, no problems there.
The rear however *is* different. The 02/03 use a shorter rear tophat that has a larger inner diameter hole. The 04-06 rear top hat has a slightely taller rear tophat with a smaller inner diameter hole.
The 3 mounting studs are the same though.
I personally ran with 02/03 Eibach pro kit wagon springs with 02/03 WRX tophats on my 04 struts and after a couple of months I started to get *** saggage.
I would HIGHLY NOT recommend going this route. Get some 04/06 WRX spec springs from Crucial Racing, Prodrive, Swift, or USDM STi Pink springs. They are all very excellent springs.
Also, if you are planning on lowering it for performance, just don't get a spring that lowers more then 1.5" otherwise you will kill the stock strut.

I was planning to get Tanabe springs but they only sell it for the 02-03 years. Now this inner hole that you're talking about is that where the strut sticks thru the top hat? So as a second thought, because of apparent fittment problems, I am thinking of going with the Eibach Pro Kit, except they sell it for an 04 WRX. Would this spring sag on me also or was your sagging due to the the top hat or ?

yes, this hole is where the strut piston goes through.
I think that the sagging was a mix between both spring and shorter tophat.
