rear knocking noise
hey,
a few months back i had cobb tuning lowering springs installed on my tr. i have been having some noise coming from the rear and have heard of a lot of other people having this problem. i called gst motorsports and they suggested i call cobb. i spoke with someone and he had said that maybe the rear sway bar was removed and re-installed while not being on the ground. does anyone know if this could actually cause some sort of problem, the sway bar being installed while on a lift rather than on the ground?
thanks,
william

Could be a number of things including your struts. I know the STIs had a problem with this. However, since things have been changes, it could be anything from something loose, to something installed incorrectly. Installing the sway bars on the lift shouldn't be a problem
This is pretty vague, it could be lots of things... creaks, clunks and thunks are tough to diagnose on the internet (plus it is a subaru with no noise insulation). Who installed them? Did you install them? If you had a shop do it, call the shop and let them know. If you did them yourself, take them out and reinstall, thats the best way to troubleshoot if you know what to look for.
In my experience with 3 different suspension setups, they all made one kind of noise....either squeaking or more road noise...with tighter suspension new noises can just "appear".
What kind of knock, loud? If it sounds really bad, I would try not to drive it. Good luck.

i had gst motorsports install them a while ago. It drives totally fine. it just makes the sounds when i hit bumps in the road and pot holes...rouch roads in general. I have been told that it is the sway bar from other subaru people. But i think i am going to do just like you said and just take it apart and put it all back together myself.
thanks

If you have the time swing by the shop, this is something we should be able to diagnose fairly simply and perhaps be able to fix there and then.
Who did you speak to when you called?

I believe I spoke with Greg. He suggested bringing it in and/or try calling cobb tuning. Thanks for the offer. Maybe I'll call back tomorrow and try to see when i can drop by. I gotta come from livermore

Post up when you find out what it is,..I have a knocking noise after a coilover install and some say it could be the endlinks and the nut backing out causing it to move and make "clunking" noises.
I had a knocking nosie in my rear suspension for months, took my car to two dealerships and one shop, no could tell me (or wanted to for that matter) what it was. Turns out my rear struts were blown out, a week after that I broke my sway bar mounts which left my car handling like it was floating, much like a minivan, this also made a hideous knocking nosie, and my car sat two inches higher on one side. GOOD LUCK!
