Not a fan of coilovers
personally i am not a huge fan of coilovers, i prefer the setup of a good shock and good spring setup, maybe with adjustable camber plate
i have not seen alot of info concerning a good shock to go with my 03 Wagon (except the STi struts that i have to sign my soul for
) and was wondering if anyone can give me some good input on this
thanks

I don't think there are any other struts out for the car yet other than the STI's. Something about the patent on the design has not expired yet. Some people have put the older impreza KYB struts on and used camber bolts in the rear I think.

tein type wagons. they are stiffer than stock, but definitely not too stiff. great setup for everyday driving, especially because you can adjust the height. under a grand and totally silent operation to boot.

I have the Koni's, and I like them a lot. I've also riden in a WRX with the AGX's and they rode oh so smooth at the soft setting and rather firm in the middle. I didn't try the full stiff setting.
Both the Koni and KYB AGX struts are adjustable. The Koni being rebound only I believe.
However, the AGX's are actually made for the older impreza RS and some believe that since the WRX is about 300lbs heavier, it maynot be a good match. But many people have been running them for close to a year if not more and I dont recall a failure as of yet. Price is about $200 cheaper then Koni's as well.

May I ask why you are not a "big fan of coilovers"?
- Alex
Even though it is nice to be able to adjust you car height i just rather go with a spring and strut setup, i do not doubt that the coilover setups are great, my friend has the Tein type Flex( i think) on his 02, i see absolutely no problem with it but i am not the person that will be raising and lowering his car that much, so i rather find a spring with a nice well rounded drop and match it with some good struts
nothing personal

What you just said is a typical response of a misinformed end-user.
I get these a lot.
Coilovers are hight adjustable. That is correct. However, you are not supposed to adjust them all the time.
Height adjustable coilovers give you an option to SET your car's heigh at any point you want and LEAVE it.
They also give you a possibility to get your car corner balanced which will dramatically IMPROVE the handling of your car.
My point is, get the coilovers, set them at whatever height you want, and leave it.
I had my coilovers on for LOOoooooong time and never adjusted them, because there is no need to.
Sping/shock is inferior setup. You will be stuck with height that the spring gives you. Also, if you get a "lowering" spring, the ride quality will be compomised in order to give you the desired height.
Coilovers are the way to go. No doubt about it.
Thats just my opinion.

Alex, the problem though with coilovers is cost. Although it's cool to set it and forget it and it should be thought of that way... Is it really worth it to pay a few hundred dollars or more for something you may never need?
Although a different person would say that it's better to have and not need then to need and not have

TEIN Wagon coilovers are ~ 800-900.
Not expensive comparing to spring/strut setup.
Yeah, on average, the coilovers are more $, but you get what you pay for. Plus, he didn't say anything about the cost. He just said he doesn't like them, hehe.

coil overs
Hey there Imprezer, from what I've read, most coilovers are a much harsher ride than most spring/strut combos. Are there any coilovers (tein perhaps) that have adjustments or are a smooth enough ride from the getgo for daily driving with friends in the car who dont like the bumpedy bumpbump? And can it be done for, saaaay, less than a grand. I know you said the tein wagons were 800-900, but (I gotta ask) are they just for the wagon or can i get the same setup/price for my sedan? I was gonna get Perrin springs, I live close to Alta here in Oregon, and they said their springs will be in soon. Perrin springs will be made by H&R, but will have 1.4" drop in rear and 1.8 drop in front. They said they like the H&R rates, but wanted to level the car out more.
so I was gonna slap those on, and then get some AGX's later, which might be released on us public folk about the time my stock struts are shooooootttt.......
just trying to stretch every penny, thanks mon, later

The tein wagon kit fits the sedan with no problem. It's firmer then stock, but in no way considered harsh. With the right springs(Eibach, Prodrives) the KYB's will also be rather firm on the 1/2 setting.
