has anyone ever cut their springs
My buddy cut a set of H&Rs for his wrx..........the spring was for a RS and it was alittle longer (about an inch) so he just cut it from the softer side......the car handled just like anyother spring lowered car.

Cutting springs= stiffer springs, and that's bad. The only reason to do it is if you get aftermarket springs, and want to cut your stockers just for the hell of it to see what happens.
I didn't do it but one of the locals here was running stock springs with one coil chopped off. Slammed looking, and apparently rode pretty well according to others. I never got to ride in it before he replaced them with the SPT stuff.

Cutting your springs is ghetto. Don't do it. Treat your Sooby right. If you cut your springs there is also a better change that your car will bottom out. Lowering springs have a stiffer spring rate so they won't bottom out nearly as easily. Besides lowering springs aren't all that expensive. Vividracing has the Progress springs on sale for $200 with a 1.5 inch drop (perfect).
I wholeheartedly agree DwithBoost, that's why I've got Prodrive springs. But as an experiment, if you could find some stock springs cheap it might be worthwhile. I only mentioned what I had heard firsthand from someone who had driven the car, whose opinion I trust. By the way, that car now has the STi suspension on it now for what it's worth...

All right just to play the devils advocate here.....stock springs have several dead coils...thr fronts usually have at least 2 and the rears usualyy have 4. all these dead coils do is raise your ride height, they offer no benifit other than this. So logic would say if you are trying to lower your car just to lower it and not for the performance mindset then cutting springs is perfectly safe considering the dead coils don't do anything. Now if you cut your springs this doesn't mean you can drive your car like you have aftermarket springs. Yup....thats it.

I try...but to more directly answer your question I along with many "Dub heads" had cut the springs on my VR6 VW. I actually know guys who pay for cut VR6 springs! You get a little wheel rub if you take a turn to hard, but they do seem to help with traction, and knocked off a time at the track. So I guess it is what you are trying to do that makes the difference. Personally I am a coil-over guy, but here in Northern VA we don't have fun hairpin turns so cutting isn't such a bad idea.
