What goals do you have for the car?
Do you just want to lower it for looks or do you plan to track/Auto-X the car?

I just want a sick street car. But I live in colorado so the car needs to be height adjustable. Im looking at the tein basic coilovers. I was just wondering if I will feel much difference in performance over the stock setup. I may race it occasionally on the track but not on a regular basis.

I've done some research and from what I've read, Helix makes a good 'street' coilover, but they may not be the best for track use. They are however, less expensive than most, if not all, of the track biased ones.
Don't do the tein basics....no good.
The stock sti suspension is actually quality stuff, so if you go with a super cheap set of coilovers, its actually a downgrade in damper quality. A second thing to note is that the idea of adjusting the height for different situations sounds good, but in reality doesnt work out so well from a practicality standpoint. Lowering or raiseing the car a substantial amount trows off the alignment, is hard to get exact, and is generally just not a fun thing to do. The height adjustment on coilovers for the street is more so you can get the car setup to the your sepecific needs and then fine tune it rather than for making frequent large changes.
At a minimum you should be buying something along the lines of a BC Racing BR. This is one of the cheapest that is worth a damn. As a street only car, you don't need to go crazy here, but just do not buy junk

Realistically, if you are going to be using the coilovers for street use only, you should probably look at more of the German valved coilovers (KW's, RCE's, Ohlins, Bilstein's, etc.). The KW Variant 1's are probably the cheapest set of German Valved coilovers available, but they seem to get pretty good reviews.

No doubt!
Same setup we have on our GC race car right now, no revalving or anything just a slightly different spring rate.
I would totally recommend the KW's for a good crossover setup between street and track I also know a good place to buy them from
