Cobb Front Brake Conversion kit

I'm looking at one of these:

http://cobbtuning.com/impreza/brakes2.html#conversion

I did basically the same thing to my BF5, but replaced the calipers instead, and didn't have the cryo'd rotors. I really liked the feel, and the Cobb pads are nice, to boot.

Does anyone else offer any update package like this?

Dave

Ah, i love the Subie community.

I was able to find a set of WRX calipers (not needed), rotors, pads and brackets with about 33k miles on them, and little abuse, for $125, plus shipping. That's about the same price as the brackets alone, new. I'll add the Cobb rotors and pads later, when i need 'em.

Install is going to be really easy since the calipers are the same on the RS, GT and WRX. I'm just hoping the bolts come out without much complaining.

That is a good price. What did you like about the Cobb pads? Do the wrx brakes fit under 15s?

The Cobb pads are made to be a little dusty, but they gripped significantly better than the stock ones. 11.4" brakes do not fit under most 15" wheels, though there may be a few very spacious models out there that might accomodate them.

Did you ever try the 11.4' brakes with your stock LT rims? Dust does not bother me.

LT? Touring Wagon? I didn't have the stock wheels at the time I upgraded it. All accounts say that no stock subie 15" wheels will fit over them.

LT = Legacy Turbo. I guess I should stop using abbreviations. Also, I keep thinking about getting the JDM 4 pots with 2 pot rears. All I am going to do is autox and drive my car on the street, maybe a track event once every two years. Do you think the 4 pots might be a bit overkill?

Would wrx fronts and H6 rears be a better option? My car has to go in the street mod class anyways, so I am going to do a big brake upgrade anyways. Any thoughts on what I should do? I was leaning more towards WRX brakes because there are so many more pad choices for them.

For the price, the 11.4" "WRX" upgrade is pretty good. You instantly get a huge amount of rotor and pad options, which are also going to be cheaper than any larger, less-common setup (unless they use the stock size pad). The "LT" has really good rear brakes, but they're hard to find and old. I think i'm going to be content with the 11.3" rears on mine, even though they're not vented.

If you're not going to be working them too hard, vented rear brakes aren't going to get you much over any rear disc setup out there.
