Brakes Grinding 32,000 miles, ?
About a week ago my rear brakes started grinding. They never squeeked. it has gotten a lot worse in only 15-20 miles and i think i'll have to replace my rotors, ( at least the right one ) I'm taking it to the dealer tonight to get the work done. It should be under warranty right? the new car warranty goes to 36,000. they were inspected at 30,000 and they said they were fine. Anyone had this problem? any advice?
Checked out dyndragon's post, my problem is definitely different. The grinding is on the rotors. You can see a 3/4" scrape on the right, and some on the left.

2002 wrx wagon brakes
I've just had all pads rotors & discs replaced at 28,000 miles. $916.00 inc oil change. My front were replaced already at 15,000. I had no squeaking but I did not pass inspection. I also did not pass at 15,000. You'd think I would have had them checked prior to the inspection, but it seems a low mileage for this much work. I use the dealer 'cos I have an extended 6 year warranty. I take it in every 3,000 miles for oil change etc. I called Subaru North America to see if there has been an upgrade of some kind & will find out probably later today. Does anyone else have a problem with the standard brakes?

I recommend to always replace rotors in pairs, and to always use new pads for them.
If you see one marked-up rotor, you may find that a rock got in and got lodged in-between the rotor and the caliper bracket, this can happen sometimes, but this is not a valid warranty concern.
If you get in there, and you see that one of the pads (i.e. inner) is wearing more than the other (i.e. outter), keep in mind that this can happen, and is normal for most types of brake calipers, especially the sliding-style units found on the pre-'06 WRX and non-drum Imprezas.
It is important to thoroughly disassemble, clean, and lubricate all sliding points of the calipers and pad-backings plates, and the pad retention pins when replacing brake pads and rotors.
