I just seen this on a site an was wondering if anyone is running it or what they think of it?

 

I would wager that any brake product made by AEM is crap. I've been weighing brake options heavily, and so far, for the money, the Perrin-modified Wilwood kit seems excellent. For the most part, all AEM parts are made for ricers, by ricers. FRBR.

I dont agree all AEM products are crap but significant increases in rotor diameter without increasing rotor thickness(ala AEM kit) is a cause for concern.

With reference to your statement about the Perrin/Wilwood kit being the best option for the price, I would have to disagree there. That specific kit is not offered by Wilwood as a front brake option on a car the weight of a Subaru. You might want to do a search here as well as some of the other SUbaru sites about peoples experiences with that kit. The Subaru STi 4pot kit uses the same rotor and is near the same price and was designed for our vehicles. IMO the STi kit is the better option, with the only downside being weight vs the Perrin/Wilwood kit. The 4pot kit however is about 1.1 lbs lighter than the stock WRX 2pots.

The AEM kit (oversize rotors) works. What AEM basically did was increase brake torque of the over size rotors while keeping the stock brake balance. Do I consider it as a BIG BRAKE KIT? No, I would use the term OVER SIZE DISC KIT.

 

So what about the calipers? ANYONE can buy a set of brembo rotors and throw them on. It's not like its a friggin holy grail, to be worshipped and admonished. Yes, Brembo makes quality products. I totally agree. But just because a kit comes with their rotors doesn't mean jack. And if those rotors are drilled, they are just for bling. Rotors like that will crack(yes, brembos) during hard open track use. It's better to go with vented and MAYBE slotted. When you're going through rotors like crazy, its not worth the price for drilled/slotted/dipped rotors.
