wierd shifter problem

wierd shifter problem
when its in gear it feels like its in neutral, it can move side to side in gear... it just feels like the shifter is lose or something, i have no idea what it could be and i cant get an appointment at a reliable subaru dealership for a week or so... does anyone know if this is ok, or should i fix something...any suggestions?
