Hey guys I'm finally about to buy my 01 2.5RS this week, and im buying from a carmax dealership in roseville...my question is this...I'm going to be buying the extended warranty: http://carmax.com/dyn/research/warranty/maxcare.aspx
the 01 RS im getting has 66k miles on it, and there's 3 levels of warranty i can buy:
1yr/12,000 miles - $899
2yr/24,000 miles - $1049
3yr/36,000 miles - $1649
I was thinking to go with the 2yr/24,000 miles - $1049, also if i buy a 2yr or 3yr and decide later to drop down to another level they will give me a pro-rated reimbursement. the reason i want the warranty is, im lazy, i dont have the tools, i dont always have the time, the money, or knowledge to do a major repair and i may as well have a dealer to do it, its a $75 deductible. I learned well when I had my 88 5.0 mustang, the tranny replacement was a PITA and costed me like $1500 for it all!!! Do you guys see any reason for me to get the 3yr to protect myself, time-wise? I'm not really worried about a what if situation, or im wasting my money. They also cover AWD systems so its pretty cool. Also is there anything I should know specifically about the GC6 that will have problems? I know the biggest thing is the AWD system, and I'm not going to be modding the car to be honest, just maybe a catback, the short throw shifter, strut bar, struts/springs, thats about it, nothing crazy like a turbo on it lol I'm using the car for a daily driver for the next 3-5yrs.Check these links out and lemme know guys!

Save your money and keep it in the bank, it's a better investment. The likelyhood of a major failure that would cost that amount to repair is very low, especially on a mostly stock RS that you aren't planning to mod extensively. In almost all cases, warranty plans are only a good deal for those who sell them.

Why not throw that $$ in an interest bearing account and pull it out if you have a problem?
The car you are buying is known for its reliability, and most of the junk-warranties are pretty-much useless.
Check how much it costs to replace a head gasket or wheel bearing, which is a known point of failure... I'd be willing to bet such a repair would be far less than the cost of the warranty.
