Viscous coupler failure?
Viscous coupler failure?
Is this a common problem? I have a 2000 2.5 RS coupe w. 96,000 miles. At very low speeds, with steering at or close to full lock, I can feel and hear something binding then releasing suddenly, and it feels like it's in the steering mechanism or driveline.
Dealer says that it's probably the visous coupler failing. Likely causes would be running different diameter tires front vs. rear, or improper towing, neither of which I've done. My front alignment was out for a few months, w. right front toed out -- could this have caused v.c. failure, i.e. could the amount of toe-out have caused the front wheels to turn at slightly different speed vs. rears, overworking the v.c.?
Does quote of about $800 to replace sound right?
Thanks for any suggestions.
