Turbo Cool down?
WASSSUp peepz....
Quick question....for a 04-05 STi.....
do you need to cool the turbo down before you shut the ignition off?
I mean, it's common sense that you wait a min or 2 before you shut off the car after a hard run.....but i keep getting info from people specifying that the turbo for the STi is water cool and that it does not need a cool down time...
Is this true????

Yes, as far as I know the turbos on the WRX and Sti's do not need to be cooled down by running them at idle. I've heard that doing so actually heats the turbo up.
All turbocharged Subarus use water-cooled turbos with cooling systems designed to continue circulating coolant by convection after the engine is shut down. Subaru has published a technical document which states that no extra cooldown procedure is needed for the turbo engines.
It won't hurt to idle the engine for 30 seconds-1 minute after hard driving but it's not actually necessary.
