Arrow Timing belt replacement at 60K miles?

I'm at 60K miles and I never changed my timing belt in my
2004 WRX.Do you think the rubber belt is cracking or showing
signs on wear at 60K miles? I just don't want to be on the highway and
have my timing belt snap and bend ten or more valves!
As I don't have time to change the timing belt myself I
am going to let my local Subaru dealership service department
change my timing belt if it is needed. They said timing belt replacement
is 595.00 is that too high? I would like to hear some opnions guys.
Thanks.

Well, it's $450.00 here in Indiana and I change mine at 60k. I also have extreme temp changes here HOT-COLD, Chicago. I autocross with my car so it all depends on conditions. Have it inspected ay the dealership. They will just pull the cover back and look at cracks and wear.

Check the manual for age/mileage recommendations. If you are really worried, ask the dealer for an inspection.

The MY02 models like mine are 104,000 miles for the timing belt - dunno about the '04s though.

I too have extreme temp changes as it gets hot/warm and cold.
I'm having my local Subaru dealership check the condition of my
timing belt this week. Thanks for the input guys.

I have an '04 WRX with 85K miles and when I asked my dealer about changing the timing belt, they said it's not needed until 105K miles.
(Just had my fuel pump replaced though - ouch! $$$)

Subaru did inspected my timing belt and found that it didn't
have any signs of wear or was cracking so they didn't have to
replace it but they did recommend changing it before 100K miles
though.
I did have a complete major 60K mile service done on my 04 WRX
and my Subaru runs better than ever I think I'm happy I got it done.
