Thinking about getting a 97 Brighton

I am new to Subaru's and I am thinking about buying a 97 2-door Brighton. It's a 5-speed with spoiler and a moonroof in good condition with 93K miles. The timing belt and water pump were both recently replaced.
Does $3800 sound fair for this car? Anything I should be on the lookout for? I am in CT where Subarus seem to be in pretty high demand if that matters.

Thanks for the reply - doesn't seem like much interest gets generated unless WRX or STi are in the header! :-)
I am a big fan af Saab and I know they have some engines to avoid at all costs. Since the Brighton appears to be just like all other Imprezas aside from the 1.8L engine and smaller rear differential and half shafts the only thing that really worried me was wether or not the 1.8L engine is as reliable as the 2.0L engine.
BTW: 5 speed was a given for me since I hate automatics and have had nothing but bad luck with them in the past on other brands.

well there are still alot of plp on this board that are interested in first gen imprezas me being one of them
but the rear diff is the same size as all other subys except the sti all share a good ol hitachi r160 rear end same thing nisson and mazda use in some of there cars asfor the halfshafts not sure
i think your brighton has a 2.2 not 1.8 because subaru stop importing 1.8 in 96 look under the engine and if it has one tube on each side it is a 2.2

No tach, no pwer door locks and no power windows, those are the primary interior differences.
It does have a 1.8L, maybe 97 was the last year since after that it looks like they did away with the Brighton variation.
BTW: I decided to get the car and picked it up last night so hopefully all will work out well.

Yup, it has AC, and it still seems to work (hard to tell for sure in cold weather). That wasn't really that important to me but definitely falls into the glad to have it category.
For me the moonroof was a bigger surprise. According to the original owner the dealer had it installed by another company when it was new. When she described it to me I assumed that she meant sunroof but said moonroof. Turns out she was right, it is a moonroof - I didn't know that they could be added. Aside from the switch that controls it which doesn't match the other switches you would never guess it didn't come that way from the factory.
