Thinking about getting a subaru, few questions..
I have a VW GTI VR6 turbo drag car and am looking to get a daily driven car. I am seriously looking into a 96-97 impreza L coupe awd mainly because i ski a lot and they seem affordable and look great. I was wondering if anyone has pics of stock ones in a few different colors or where i can find pics. Also i would appreciate all information on reliability, quality, issues with them, etc... What they go for these days. Any and all information is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

e-mail sean@rallitek.com and ask him about issues with those cars, he was a Suby Service Manager for 7 years. They come in green, black, red/maroon, white and maybe some other colors, pretty basic fare.
You could pay from 1000-5000 depending on the condition, mileage, and of course, who you buy it from. Look for private party cars with around 60k-120kmiles and have it looked at by a reputable mechanic in your area, Sean could be more specific on what to look for, e-mail him, he also has 2.2 performance parts. Bonus!

Totally reliable.
We replaced a Jetta GLI 16v with ours, and haven't been sorry. Same/better performance, same basic weight, plus awd...how can you go wrong?
Only downsides I've noticed on the Impreza is it feels flimsy compared to the VW (frameless door windows, cheap plastics) but everything holds up well regardless. Even our 140,000 mile seats look good yet.
Read about ours at my web site if you're inclined (it's green with gold RS wheels).

yeah its a good reliable car. a couple things to check if you find one are the timing belt and oil pump seals. timing belts on those should be done every 100k or so. the book says 60k, but they have an auto/hydraulic tensioner and i have never seen a belt on an imp. or legacy break. but along with the t.b. go the oil pump seals. these seals (front crank seal and oil pump o-ring) are the main reason to reaplace the timing belt before 100k. the leak anywhere from 60k on. so check out the service records, take the car to a subaru mechanic. it will be worth the time to have someone who knows what they are looking for to go over the car.
