Should I Mod a WRX or stock STI?
I maybe shopping for either a new WRX or STI and was wondering how good are modded WRX doing 13's holding up in reliability (if they are daily driven and taken care of,..I know too vague a ?, but in comparo to buying a WRX or STI)
Seems that I could get the cheaper WRX and buy a COBB plug-in for fuel maps , exhaust etc and get into the 13's as well, which would be plenty fast already and save the $ over getting a new STI.
I know that the STI's 2.5L engine is better for torque and the components are better too (injectors, 6 speed etc), but with the money saved on getting a WRX, can go to individualizing and tricking out the car with security, fuel pump, injectors, for added boost security and the COBB plug in too (which I really like cause of the valet and security or disabling the injectors),..Getting a STI has more potential too with mods, but it plenty fast already,..
Any thoughts?

You could mod a wrx and get it into the 13s with reliability. The only problem with modding your car, is that you void warranty. The nice thing about the STI is that you get the up graded wrx but with a warranty.
Its been discussed a few times already, and it basically comes down to these two conclusions:
1. Its not hard to mod up a wrx to go faster than an STi in a straight line, but ofcourse there's the warrenty issue.
2. The STi is a better package overall, because if you plan on doing more than go in a straight line, the cost of suspension mods becomes a factor if you went with a wrx.
The STi is a better overall package, and you should get more out of the STi than with the wrx.

Seraph beat me to it. There's a lot more to the STi than straight line speed. The handling is phenomenal, and you would have to spend a lot of money on a WRX to get it to handle as well as the STi. And then there's the brakes, the 6-speed transmission, the seats, etc. etc.

I know STIs got better parts,..
But as you know a new WRX is like $24k, STI for $32k,..For 8k, cant you just get the COBB Accessport and get into the 13's along with exhaust and have money to spare for wheels and stereo? For warrantee, I can just use to stock fuel map and not worry,..
I guess with the higher buy and operating costs (insurance), just wondering if the more expensive STI is worth it all,.. Ive only got 2 hands to work for the rest of my life,..lol

Well the answer to your question is yes. You can get a WRX, go to Cobb and get into the 13s. But you won't handle like an STi, brake like an STi, have torque like an STi, you won't have the manual center diff control, 6 speed reinforced gearbox, HIDs, etc. etc. I believe it will take more than the $8k price difference to bring a WRX up to STi specs all around.
But if all you want is to go quicker in a straight line, then you will be saving some money by getting a WRX and modding it rather than getting an STi. But the STi is a better overall package.
