Unhappy Outback Wagon AT

Hi,

I've a '99 Outback Wagon, with an AT. I bought it used an in generally nice condition. Recently, the AT has resisted going into gear - if you've been driving for some time. My wife also says that it has "fallen" out of gear for her while she is driving - has never happened to me.

If you've been stopped for several hours - it will drop into drive. If you drop into Target to pick up some sponges - it will resist going into drive unless you give the accelerator a little tap - it just sits in neutral. It looks like the fluid is full, but it is dark. I'm comfortable changing (mixing, adding, whatever) by myself, but I don't know if I need to have it flushed or not.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Tom

I would just drain it out and refill it with the ATF the manual says to use. It really isnt any harder than changing the oil, except that its a little harder to fill it back up.
