'05 Outback wagon to STi wagon
Ok, so I have been reading into this for some time and have decided to procede with it, I am a complete and utter n00b to the max. That said, here's my incredibly dumbed down idea, any help is really apreciated. I recently sold my '03 WRX, and have 17k and the only reason I sold it was because I wanted the Impreza wagon. I want to find the cheapest '04-'05 Impreza wagon, in this case, it's an automatic Outback wagon in nasty two tone tomato red/beige exterior. I want to swap the 2.5i drivetrain for the full STi drivetrain, axles, brakes, tranny, dccd, diffs, etc... Then follow it up with the STi EJ25. If I get the Outback for 13, sell all the parts that I will be trading out, (have around 50k miles on the car) how big of a project is this going to be, and this will be my daily driver, I've seen people do it with a WRX wagon, why not a Outback? Like I said, any feedback is appreciated. I am working so I can spend a little money on the car, it would obviously be nice if I could make this happen under 20k. Thanks again in advance.

it's a doable project, but if you're new to the whole idea i recomend going to a shop to do the work. From what I hear LIC is one of the best.
all the parts will fit, it's the same as goign form any other impreza to a STi/ you'll probaly be best off getting a doner STi. one that's totaled, but all the needed parts are there.
it will be one hellva a sleeper

I feel your frustration my wagonier friend. I sold my project crx and bought a 2005 wrx wagon 5 speed in white ext. with blk int. for my sti transformation. I have been reaserching this idea for about a year and a half now i basically have the how to guide you could say but you can get that from many online forums and possibley even your dealer. I dont recall hearing it beeing done in a an outback wagon but either way it is a do able project the outback is same dimensions as a wrx wagon. And i agree with the othere post here finding a doner sti will be much cheaper and yoiu can even steal the int. out of it in that case to make it a little more like an sti and less like a 2 ton outback. email me if you have questions i might be able to answer most of them.

If you have a lot of money to blow. I'd say go for it. Keep in mind that you can buy a used STi for 17K. A project is a project, but yeah... I think the pricing could be a concern. As far as I know, physically putting the engine in is simple compared to the wiring. The wiring is usually what makes or breaks someone.
