Read the service schedule in your manual package, or look it up on the Subaru website. 30K is a major service interval and you should not neglect it. It may be time for you to find another mechanic, one who is more familiar with Subarus and their service requirements.

+1

30k consists mostly of motor oil and oil filter change, tranny and diff oil change, fuel filter, air filter element, inspect belts...

pretty easy to do on your own if you're handy with a ratchet and have the spare time to do it. there are also a bunch of local shops around here that will do your 30k for you. check them out in the vendor forums.

btw you can use the search function next time instead of making another thread, as this question has been pretty much beaten to death.

2004 vehicle maintenance schedule.

Scheduled maintenance should be considered a must do. Your mechanic is not saving you money by telling you the maintenance schedule isn't important. It's necessary if you want your car to perform at its best and have a long service life.

brake fuild.

btw I didn't know about the fuel filter, I will have to change that. I did my 30k myself with Mobile 1, suby tranny and diff fluid, ATE(blue) brake fluid and panel filter clean/oil kit for about $100 total because I did all the labor.

Add to that P/S Flush and Coolant Flush. Basically all fluids should be changed and/or flushes performed every 30K if you want to really take care of your car. Is all of it needed, depends on your driving habbits and climate you live in. Any extreme temps hot or cold dictates a 30K service including all fluids changed.

Thanks,
Noah
