Question Rear View Mirror Problems

I have an 02 wrx, the "tint" in the rear view mirror has mostly disappeared, leaving the mirror streaky appearing. Is their a fix for this
or do you have to replace the mirror. This is for a auto dimming mirror.

The same thing happened to me. There is nothing to fix it; my mirror broke on my 03 WRX @40K miles. I took it to Subaru and they said that a new auto dimming mirror would cost $189. The kicker it would be replaced under warranty if it would have broke 4k sooner.

Yes you do have to replace it.
Rather than replace it with the same thing, you can look around online for a Donnelly mirror with additional features such as outside temp, map lights etc. The mirror in your car is a Donnelly as they are the OEM mfr. for Subaru.

Does anyone know a good place to get a replacement, not going to the dealership seems like a good idea unless it's the only place that has it.

Look on Ebay, there are always plenty for sale there. Do a general internet search as well to find other online vendors. Just be sure to get one with the proper "cam lock" type mount.
The two brands you will find are Donnelly and Gentex. If you get a Donnelly it should plug into your existing harness, you'd just have to run the wire for the temp probe if you get one with that option.

I have found a Donnelly on ebay, has anyone had to this up, the concern I have is make sure that the wiring harness is the same for a Donnelly as with the OEM.

it's the same - if you get one with additional features (e.g., exterior temp) you will need to run the wires, but the rest of the harness is the same.

Thanks for all of the input. Just to let everyone know that might have had this problem, I found a oem replacement for $129. Visit www.premiersubaruparts.com they have an awesome selection. They also have factory painted body pieces, such as front lips and etc.
