Help me decide on buying a WRX

I have two choices...

1) I can either sell my car now for close to 17 , and get an 03 bugeye rex for around the same price with low miles. (I cant stand the bugeyes or the interior though...)
ORRR
2) I can wait until a buyer would like to buy my car for 18,800 and get an 04 wrx with over 40,000 miles...

Whichever one I get, I plan to put about 10,000 miles on before I put a turboback exhaust, uppipe, accesport, sti pinks, and a VF-34 turbo. Soooo

Im assuming that option 2 will take a while, maybe even a year, for my 02 Celica GT-S to privately sell. Option 1 will probably get me a buyer sooner and I would be able to learn manual on a rex sooner.
It will be my first time driving stick, and I know that I wont be modding the rex until about this time next year. So should I just wait and get an 04? Or should I start driving manual and get better at it and go with the 03?
I personally dont like bugeyes as much, but I know i could budge. Thanks!

Here is what im Trying to sell:

Nice pic, It all depends what you like, do a search for the differences on the two (other than aesthetic) and go from there, good luck. Try driving both too if you can, or at least sitting in them.

I own an '03 wrx, but i test drove an '04. performance wise both are exactly the same. obviously the exteriors are different between the two and the '04 interior is much nicer. it's has better fabric and racing seats more like the sti's. I really love my '03 tho it's an awsome car and in terms of body kits etc. there's a lot more out there for the '02-'03's. but in the end your buying the car for great performance and both years have that so in my opinion just get the '03 and start driving it.

-good luck with your purchase

I'll take both in red... JK

Wouldn't the 2004 be better since your not familiar with a manual and would probably be pretty hard on the transmission during the learning process? I thought the bug-eyes had the weak transmissions... I'm a newbie myself and I'm going on what I read on various forums so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I heard it was only the first part of 2002. I thought they changed to beefier gears in 2003.

Useful info...
Start on post 5 and go from there.

price check... aisle 3?

I think you would be amazingly lucky if you could get 17 for a 2002 Celica, especially a GTS with an automatic (I presume). Unless your car is heavily modded, you may be waiting for quite a while before someone makes an offer like that. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've been doing this for a long time, and keeping in mind that in 2 months, your car will be 4 years old, I think it's a bit optimistic to think that you can get 75% of the MSRP. You never know when you'll bump into someone who REALLY wants your car though, so it can't hurt to try.

Heh... Toyotas do hold their value extremely well. Why not wait for the new WRX to come out?

Yea, I realllllyyyyy hope to get over 18 for it. If I dont get over 18, then I know there is no way that I could get a 2004 WRX thats still under warranty. Im hoping someone will just fall in love with the celica (Maybe thats why I have that pic up on autotrader with the hooters girls?!) And if I dont get that much, I guess Ill just get the 03 and modify the front lights since I cant stand them.

UNLESS I get a higher mileage 2004 WRX. I do love the new interior, the exterior, and the guages with the rpms in the middle . I think they light up a different color than the 03s? I think they are red on the 04 but im not sure. Anyway, WHAT DO YALL THINK OF GETTING AN 04 with close to 60,000 miles and mod it with a VF-34 at around 70? Yall think thats a good idea or should I sacrifice the interior and exterior looks of the 04 and go with a low mileage 03?
Whichever I get i plan to mod with vf-34 and the accesport, as well as the other goodies.

You can get a new Saab 9-2x Aero for under $20K I believe. Of course, no sedan, just wagon configuration. If you include the girls I'm sure you can get $18K .

03 vs 04

if you're planning on mods like that, then you're going to void the warranty anyway, so it's no big deal to go with a newer car that's out of warranty. If it's been driven well and taken care of 60,000 miles is nothing to worry about on a WRX.

I did a little quick research on those Celicas, and a GT-S in average condition would go through a dealer auction in the 13's with mileage in the high 20's, if it's very clean, perhaps low 14's. DEALERS are listing 6-speeds for under 17,000, and list price is often nowhere near bottom line selling price.

From the pic, it looks like a nice clean car, but an automatic is a tough sell in a sports car, and even if it were a stick, you'd have trouble getting 17 private party. Maybe it would be better to wait a year until you owe a bit less, or, if you really want to trade even up for a WRX, you could probably make it work with an 02 WRX pretty easily....
