Financing via bank?

Financing via bank?
Was thinking of financing a used car through the bank.
My question is... how does it work? Say that the car is 15,000 CDN (12,000 USD) and I only have 5000 CDN (I have like... 0, but lets assume for now... hehehe).
So... the bank will allow me to finance the 10,000? And how does it work? Like new car financing?

I guess my question is if I'm going for a new car... I go to the bank to ask for a loan? (a price range, I presume)?
and then I pay it off in hte same manner as financing?
