STi for $22k via "hookup", bluff or not?

This "guy" on another message board (some video game/anime board) said he knew the owner of the Alhambra Subaru dealership in So Cal. He said his friend offered him an STi for $22k. Now this is $10k under the MSRP price tag. So of course, I said it was bullsh*t and asked him if he was sure it was an STi and not a WRX with STi parts.

So to anyone who knows about dealerships, invoice costs, and such, can ANYONE in the dealerships get away with selling an STi for $22k out the door? I thought you can get a WRX out the door for that cost, but not an STi.

I'm just wondering if that's impossible or not. If not, someone's probably in trouble if they let one off the lot for that cheap. So if anyone can enlighten me on this subject, that would be great, thanks.

I hate these frickin' facts vs. "my friend said so" or "my friend said I could" debates.

Yea, the guy kept insisting I was being an *** for saying I don't believe him. Heh. So even dealership owners can't sell their units that cheap?

Hmm...sounds like $28.5 would be possible if the guy IS an owner of the dealership. Thanks.

The cost of a regular WRX is 22,437. No way you can get an STi for that much.

They can sell them for anything they want- they'd just be giving you free money if they go under $29k.

Just remember how te dealers make their money...

APR interest rate and Warranty options!

so yes it's possible for them to sell you a 28k Sti but they'll push the highest warranty they can on you and give you the worst Interest rate they can with regard to your credit history.

So..... don't even consider a 28k Sti unless you have A++ credit. And don't touch the extended warranty.

Thats the tell tale sign of a chronic liar, they have a tendancy to want everyone to believe what they say no matter how far fetched it is. Its a type of attention needing complex.

Even though its BS, there is only one way to rub it in for him...

Call his bluff, and then post it on the board he frequents!

Nah, I ain't gonna do that. I already called it BS and he blew up at me. The drama's killed on that note in the meantime cuz it quickly turned into a flamewar (which I DID not initiate since I was merely pointing out that it sounded improbable) since he had a problem with people saying he can't do this or that. I had a friend or two who could verify this, but if the guy's personal friends with an owner and the owner wants to lose some cash, oh well, whatever. Beef's been squashed anyway, yea, sounds dumb, over a price of a car. :P
