fair price for '05 STI
I've read a few threads here for pricing on these cars but it sounds as if these prices are for cars on the lot...
I want a specific color (crystal grey metallic) with specific options (which I think are common - short shift, single turbo gauge, aauto dimming mirror). Dealer invoice is $30,838 in Salt Lake City.
My question is: what do I offer for this car at the dealer? My understanding from them is that this color/options car will need to be ordered and will not be available until July. Usually I would offer 2-5% over dealer invoice, but I see others on this forum suggesting prices below dealer invoice? How does that work - isn't the dealer losing money in that situation? Why would they be willing to do that?
Also, when will the '06 STIs be available for purchase?

Car Info: 05 WRX Wagon (Crystal Gray)
The 06's will probably be here Aug/Sep.
If it is an in stock-unit then below invoice is a possibility. It depends on how many they sell and how popular they are there. They are able to do that because there is holdback on the car that they will still get even if you buy below invoice.
On the other hand if they get it from another dealer by trading, then they loose the holdback so they probably won't sell it below invoice.
As far as ordering it and being there in July. They are probably just trying to get you to switch colors and buy one in stock because they don't want you to wait.
From the Subaru Locate system it shows a CGM w/silver wheels at Larry H. Miller Subaru in Sandy, UT and one w/ gold wheels at Blackridge Subaru in St. George.

Thanks very much for your response!
If I wish to go with a dealer in SLC besides Larry H Miller, can they trade with them so I can buy from "my" dealer? I purchased my WRX from them and they are offering me a good trade in price.
I assume that there is zero info on changes for the 06 STI at this time?

Just rumors.
The possibility of a trade is always there. It's all up to the sales managers at the two dealerships. If the dealer with the car won't give it up then you are up a creek.

Hey If You Wana Get Any Car ,ask Below Invoice Always, But First Research The Car Of The Invoices In You Area, Hey Thats How I Got My Sti Below Invoice.
One Note Planing To Buy One, Dont Be So Interested In The Car , Be Like Might Get This One Or The Evo What Kind Of Price Do You Offer.. But Go In The Dealer With The Price Your Willing To Pay, No More Keep Fighting For Price Your Willing To Pay, If Not Be Like Im Going To Another Dealer,

The invoice price is what the dealer would pay for the car if they ONLY bought one. But they dont just buy one, they buy a lot, car dealers, for the most part, do not sell their cars for less then THEy paid for them, i know there are very extreme surcumstances.
