drag race launch-BANG
Assume (hypothetically that I was bracket racing last night. A lot of traction 4500 rpm launch and I let the clutch out too quick. BANG. car. Does anyone know what typically breaks in this situation and what's the best place to get it fixed (assuming the warranty is denied)? I'm in SF Bay Area. Thanks
Question. What state is the car in now? Can you drive it? If so will all gears shift? Is there any odd noises from the drive line. If your tranny will engauge in all 5 gears + r there might not be any trouble with your tranny. Might!! Jack the frobt up and trun the fron wheels. Check the axels. You'll know if one is broke. Could be a cv joint. Do the same with the rear, minus turning the wheels of course. This may give you some indication of what is wrong. It's still cost quite abit if you cannot diagnose or even repair the trouble itself.
transmission, 1st gear. if you start the car and it makes a grinding sound in neutral with the clutch let out, then you've broken 1st gear, technically you could move the shifter through the gears with the clutch depressed, but it depends on how bad your main shaft is bent (happens at high RPM launches)
yes, your warranty will be denied. expect to pay close to $4000 for a new tranny if they cant replace the gear set only. You should be able to have it rebuilt for a lot less though. The dealership will recommend a new trans, but they can rebuild it for less money no matter what they tell you. look to be without your car for a good month because they will need to send out an SOA rep to take pictures and confirm denial of the warranty.

Another BAIC member recently put the hurt on 3rd gear in his wagon. The dealership had NO problem fixing his tranny under warranty (his car was put back to stock before going in, though it was very UN stock when the transmission broke) when he traded it in for an STi.
So buy an STi and they'll take care of it right quick. Sorry about your transmission, man. Have you any modifications to the engine?
ill show you pics of what happened.just finished repairing a trans for the same problem.more than likely you lost first driven gear and main shaft.on the bright side you can use the old main shaft as a clutch aligning tool now-lol.sorry for that one.
