Considering a suby!
Hey everyone, my name is Ryan, im a newbie! gotta love it, anyways I am considering buyin a wrx. I dont know for sure yet but im considering either an 04 rex or an 04 sti. I doubt ill be able to afford the sti, but if its possible, it shall be done. I love to speed, i get in trouble sometimes in my 00 civic Si. But im curious what kinda quarter mile times i should expect to get stock out of an 04 rex and an 04 sti. Also what kinda mods are good to do first on the wrx. I would definitely want to have some more speed out of it, and i DEFINITELY wanna do coilovers as well as the other goodies that come with suspension. Im thinkin TEIN for sure. But let me know what you guys think. If i end up with an sti, it wont get modded for awhile. Just lookin to get some more info before i buy. Thanks everyone.

A good stock wrx quarter mile time is in the low 14s IIRC. I don't know stock STi quarter mile times right off the top of my head, but I bet are in the 12s range.
For power mods, anything that helps the car to breathe more is good. Better intake, uppipe, downpipe, exhaust will help. But the best bang-for-the-buck mod you can do is an ECU reflash. When you start modding other things, reflashing the ECU is even more important, as it lets the car take advantage of the mechanical work done.

out get the sti. you'll be happy you did. yes a wrx is more civilized...but the sti will be "all-ready to go". also depends on what you plan to do...if wanna be as authentic to WRC as possible go wrx and keep it 2.0 . . . if u just want the raw power get the sti.

I think im gonna go for the gold here, or, maybe, the pink? (haha) and get the sti, as long as i can afford the damn thing! Looking at prices a wrx is only 4-6 grand lower in price and id spend ATLEAST that much modding it, so might as well do it right the first time. Thanks guys!

To clear things up, a stock STi runs mid 13s if youre a good driver.
2. Unless youre really modding a WRX, a new intake doesnt do much. Its more about Up pipe, Down pipe and exhaust. And with that an ECU is a must. I puts all the pieces together.
3. A new rex can be had for 23k if you look well. New STi under 30k? Havent seen it. So its more like a 6k difference. If you can afford it i would do it for sure. But the payments are much higher and so is insurance. Just things to consider.
Hope i didnt step on anyone's toes here.

Since you have a nice, good handling honda, you'll probably want to throw in some adjustable struts and sways to get that tight feeling back. Suby's feel floaty when stock, at least to me.
