I'm assuming you own a rex...Subaru had a recall on one of their cruise control parts a fewyears back. Dunno if that's it but you might want to check it out.
The cruise light flashes with the CEL to get your attention, there isn't anything wrong with the cruise control.
It's impossible to speculate here on what caused the light to come on because there are literally hundreds of different conditions that can be detected by the ECU to set codes. You need to have the code(s) read and then come back and post it (them) here. If there is an Autozone near you they will scan it for free, unless you are in CA where I believe they loan you the scanner for a deposit and you scan it yourself. Alternately you can find someone in your local area who has a scanner and can check it for you.
When you do get it scanned, be sure to get the actual numerical code(s) so we can help you more accurately. Sometimes Autozone will just tell you the code is for a "sensor" and not give you the #, which is useless.
edit- and to address the above post, this has nothing to do with the cruise recall.

Mulder is right, CEL only monitors the emissions systems, sensors, and ignition systems of your vehicle. The cruise control has nothing to do with it. I'll bet is that downpipe or fuel gas cap. Anyways, go get the codes from your local AutoZone so you'll have a pretty good idea what's going on.

Attach it to your OBDII port (under the steering column) and read whatever codes you find here. That will help us narrow it down.
Without that other information, we won't be able to help you too much. It could be anything. O2 sensor, misfire, cat inefficiency, etc...
